Glass Wine Bottle Production Process

● Heat the soda-lime glass (also known as soda ash or washing soda limestone and sand) to its melting temperature point. This process allows for molten gobs to be produced.

● The molten gobs can be sliced to the correct weight, volume and size. These orange lava nuggets are pushed through a funnel and into their awaiting metal mold.

● Once the gob is settled, the blowing process can start. The airflow enters the mold, allowing the glass's formation to fill the mold and produce the desired glass bottle shape.

● A plunger mechanism moves into the mold neck, allowing a counterblow that forms the final *parison.
(*A parison is a rounded mass of glass formed by rolling the substance immediately after removal from the furnace).

● As the metal mold is in two parts, perfect timing allows the machine to separate both elements, revealing the bottle as the desired shape.

● The next step in this bottle-making process is reheating, ensuring the parison temperature synchronises with the internal glass temperature. This harmonisation allows for smoothing of the glass and breakage prevention.

● The final step is another blow that allows the spirit bottle glass to tighten into its new shape.

● As the newly shaped bottle cools down, it continues the journey on a heat-absorbing conveyor plate. The spirit bottles are now ready to be filled, packed and delivered to the correct outlet.

Submit design
We will understand the needs of customers, conduct sketch design, meet the requirements of customers under the premise of meeting production needs, and complete the first draft design.

FAQ

Q: Why do glass wine bottles have a concave bottom?

A: You may have wondered about the purpose of the indentation at the bottom of a wine bottle. This depression is known as a punt or a kick-up. Punts don't contribute to the quality of wine but they often come in handy during wine production and service.

Q: Why are red and white wine bottles different?

A: Typically, red wine bottles have a broader base and taller shoulders. White wine bottles, however, tend to have a more slender profile. Wine bottle shapes vary and are often designed with specific wines in mind. Bordeaux bottles have straight sides and high shoulders, ideal for structured reds.

Q: Why is red wine always in green bottles?

A: Green bottles in some areas are used for traditional reasons, but also in the case of red wine to hide any sediments produced during the aging process. Not only the visible light but mostly the ultraviolet light.

Q: Does the shape of a glass wine bottle matter?

A: It's purely aesthetic to be honest, although it may affect how easily it fits in the fridge.

Q: Why are glass wine bottles round?

A: Originally made by hand, by glassblowers, round bottles were the easiest to make, and the quickest - so it just became a question of efficiency. These days, bottles could be made any shape really, but most wines stay in round bottles for tradition.
